A little about us

Limes End Cottage is a five-acre smallholding on the Buckinghamshire / Northamptonshire border. We moved into the cottage in June 2014 and since then have been very busy setting up everything thing we need to keep rare and traditional breeds of pigs, poultry and waterfowl.

A couple of months after we moved in we got our first taste of animal husbandry by buying three chickens from a local poultry supplier. As our first ever ‘livestock’ Clemmy, Norma and Samantha became our pets and have kept us in tasty, fresh eggs ever since.

The three chickens were quickly followed by six Norfolk Black turkey poults that we reared for ourselves (and a few lucky others) for Christmas dinner. The turkeys were a real milestone for us as they were the first animals we’d ever reared for meat. Dispatching them ourselves definitely wasn’t the easiest thing we’ve done (and nor should it have been) but the succulent, flavoursome meat we were rewarded with made it all worth it.

In 2015 we moved into four-legged livestock by rearing five Oxford Sandy & Black pigs, expanded our collection of poultry by hatching out our first Aylesbury ducks, and got our first top bar beehive.
