Pigs 2016

Pigs 2016

Wow, that two months went by quickly! Time to bring you up to speed on how some of our livestock are doing...

At the end of May we brought home six Tamworth pigs from an award-winning breeder in Warwickshire. It was a bit of a squeeze to get them all in our Land Rover but we just about managed it by using a couple of dog crates. The following photo was taken just after we introduced them to their new home - the sheep hurdles were a temporary measure we used to make sure they knew where to sleep on their first night.

New pig arrivals

Skip forward to this week and it's amazing to see how much they've grown (see below). As you can see from the photo the pigs live a very contented life with us, which is why we love rearing them.

Contented pigs

They'll be with us for another couple of months before we take them to the abattoir towards the end of September. We'll of course be sad to see them go but, knowing that we've given them a happy and stress-free life, we'll be able to enjoy some excellent pork and sausages that will hopefully be at least as good as last year's, if not better.
